The pleasure of making it yourself
Listening to music is a fine thing; making it yourself is something else entirely. Whether returning to an instrument that has stood in a corner for years, or trying one for the first time – playing actively fulfils you in a way that listening never quite reaches. You go deep, forget the time, and feel the effect of sound and rhythm directly.
It sounds better together
Making music together connects people in a particular way. You listen to one another, fit in, create something jointly that is greater than the sum of the parts. Even as a beginner there is usually a group at the right level – a band rehearsal, a house concert, a casual playing session. A shared goal is what motivates the practice and keeps you at it.
